The "Born Centre Cultural" from outside |
A long time ago, the “Born”
was a market where people bought food. Before turning becoming it into a museum,
they were going to build a library, until they noticed some ruins.
Back in the
13th century, when Felip V (successor to Carles II) won the war of
succession, in which the city of Barcelona suffered a siege back in the 1714, he
built the “Cuitadella” a military fortress, made to prevent the Catalans from
revolting. The military fortress was built on top of houses and buildings of
one part of the city. “El Born Cultural Centre” under a symbolic structure of
iron architecture from the nineteenth century is situated on one of the parts
of the city that was demolished.
The site:
This site, which
has 8.000 m2 and in a perfect state of conservation, makes this
museum unique in Europe and in the world.
